Biography

I am the PK-2 grade art teacher at Cumberland Academy. I consider myself a progressive educator and have been teaching at Cumberland for 12 years. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Art Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

East Texas is my home, where I was born and raised. In my free time I enjoy creating art, traveling, cooking, reading, exercising and spending time with my family. My favorite artist is Vincent Van Gogh.

I am committed to creating a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating and encouraging to students. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and encourage their creative expression.

My mission for the elementary art program is to provide a motivating, artistic
experience that combines art elements and principles with core
curriculum objectives.

In art we will learn about the elements of line, shape, form, color, value, texture and space. We will also learn about the principles of art: pattern, rhythm/movement, balance, unity, variety, emphasis. I create interdisciplinary connections between student’s art lessons and other subject areas such as history, math, reading, language arts, music, and science. It is my goal that all students will leave art with a strong capability to solve problems creatively.

Also, students will explore different cultures and create multicultural art projects as well. We will use a variety of materials and learn about many art styles. We welcome any use of recycled materials such as, egg cartons, magazines, newspaper, jars, etc.

In general, I would like my classroom to be a welcoming, safe and happy environment for all students to be able to participate in. I love teaching and I am truly passionate about art education. I look forward to seeing the art program at Cumberland Academy continue to expand.
